Flat Track:
Flat Track Motorcycle
racing is not just a sport it has been our passion for many years. Seeing a
rider at full tilt boogie speed come flying into a corner and then just grab
more throttle so the bike gets into a huge powerslide makes our blood boil.
Speed, handle bar to
handlebar, steel shoe on their left foot it is man versus man but also man
versus machine as they try to hold their line while at the edge of traction.
It just doesn’t get better than that!
Flat Track Motorcycle
racing rules have been almost the same for many years. Basically the bikes
have no front brake, smoother tires that are not quite a knobby and not a
street tire, are basically designed to not take huge Motocross type jumps.
AMA sanctions some of our
events and we are proud to be involved with such a class organization. For
questions about AMA PRO RULES contact www.amaproracing.com or www.1800flattrack.com for their National schedule. When AMA sanctioned we follow their rules and
procedure to the intent of the rule.
Some of our events are run
with Monster Trucks and are not AMA sanctioned. AMA safety rules for bikes
and riders are enforced. We usually run several classes including races for
older bikes – Vintage is what they are called.
Vintage racing has come
along way with participation from the AHRMA and VDTRA. We try to follow a
medium between the two of those organizations. Some of our events are
sanctioned by the AHRMA and VDTRA if and when that happens riders that want
to compete in those Vintage classes must join that association. You can
find more at www.vdtra.com.
Trophies will be awarded
to the top 5 places in all amateur classes.
The race format is a
process of elimination that will consist of heat races, last chance
qualifiers to determine who will compete in the main events. Most tracks
indoors are limited to no more than 14 riders in the Main Event per class.
AMA memberships are not
needed when we run Non Sanctioned races.
An AMA membership is
required to compete in and AMA Sanctioned event. Memberships are for one
calendar year and have many benefits. Go to www.ama-cycle.org for more information. AMA memberships are available at event registration,
$39 year membership or call 1 (800) AMA-JOIN and you can join with a
MasterCard or Visa.
You are either a Pro or
Amateur rider. Amateur riders may ask to move up. No one under 16 years
old may race in the Pro class at either AMA sanctioned or non sanctioned
races.
A rider's age as of
November 1 will determine his/her age, but a rider may move up to the next
higher class if he/she will be eligible to do so at any time during the
year. Example: a rider races amateur on Friday night and has a
birthday on Saturday that rider may run Pro if they wish. If you have a
question about age classes please refer to the AMA rulebook.
At registration the rider
and pit person must bring a legal drivers license or valid photo ID. If the
rider or person either wanting to race or get a pit pass is less than 18
years old, then a parent or legal guardian must sign release forms and
remain present with minor all day. The parent, legal guardian or authorized
adult must present a drivers license or valid photo ID. A pit pass (usually
an armband that is issued daily) allows you access to the pits as well as
the grandstands. (a special seating area will be blocked off in the
grandstand for riders and pit people - some seats are also available for
family but they must buy a ticket at the box office and ask for competitor
seating).
Pit Area room is tight.
Some are larger than others but each rider is limited to one pit person for
each bike. Sometimes we can allow you to camp outside with your motor
homes
and trailers in the parking lot. There is usually room for a small tool box
and that is about all besides your bikes or 4 wheeler. The basic pit area
rules are simple: No fuel Jugs indoors, No smoking, No foul language, No
starting bikes in the pit area, no riding your bikes in the pit area, just
be kind to your other competitors and be safe.
Excessive smoke from your
racer might get you disqualified. Please take the time to tune your bike
and get it running good before you bring it to the Arena. Also smokeless
oil is recommended. Most 2 cycle oil companies make it. Use of smokeless
oil will help greatly.
Number plates must have
contrasting numbers (Example: no blue numbers on black backgrounds).
Number plates with professional numbers are recommended and also your
rider’s jersey or chest protector should have the same number on it that is
on the racer.
Indoor flat tracks are
going to be tighter than most any outdoor tracks you have raced on. Most
indoor tracks are only 25 feet wide except at the start or the first corner.
Our track builders have been doing this for many years and our goal is to
give you a track that is safe with places to pass. Remember these tracks
are usually in the confines of a hockey rink or when we are lucky an indoor
rodeo grounds.
Thanks for stopping by and
we hope to see you at a race!
